Cookie Cutter Websites
If you read the page "What We Do and Don’t Do" on our website you’ll see that we don’t do “cookie-cutter” or “templated” websites. Here are some examples of what those look like. Do you see how they all have a similar look/layout? How boring and ineffective!
In contrast, here are a few of our one-of-kind web designs. You can see the differences. Each site has a completely different look/layout to reflect that particular business. It’s very important a site really stands out (is memorable) in the world-wide-web these days!
So, now you know what we mean by “cookie cutter” web designs and why it’s a good idea to do unique designs for each business. The ultimate goal is to attract your ideal clients!
A Website for a Bass Fisherman?
Almost daily, I’ll get a phone call asking me, “Have you ever done a website for a musician, electrician, ballet dancer, hair stylist, bass fisherman, you-name-the-profession?” The Web Muse & Co. doesn’t specialize in doing websites for one single industry or profession. The diversity of all the different clients who put their confidence in us to design a successful website is what we enjoy! Current site designs on the drawing board include: a healthcare consultant in NYC, a furniture designer, a tailor/wedding/alterations, a non-profit organization and a redesign for an events/team building/corporate picnics company.
Have a Good Backup System
This message comes from one of our client’s in Florida - John Ekin and I think it is worth repeating. Thank you, John!
I know this has been said over and over, but you can't say it enough: "Be sure you have GOOD back ups".
I recently had some repairs done to my Mac (BTW, Apple did a PHENOMENAL job on the repair!) but they wound up replacing my hard drive and of course I lost everything that was on my computer. For me, I have back ups of almost everything, but what I usually hate about these situations is that I also lose all my preferences and settings and I never feel like I get things back quite right.
Well, last year I invested in a dedicated external drive (which are dirt cheap these days) and installed Apples Time Machine. With about 3 clicks and a couple of hours to restore, I had my exact computer back and running with my original settings and pref's as if nothing had happened; only now it runs like a top! I was so happy and relieved!
I know there are many choices for back up out there for PC and MAC; pick a good one and use it.... you're eventually gonna need it. Cheers, John

What if a Website is Illegal, Unethical or Posts Bad Things About Me?
In the 11 years we’ve been in business, this question has come up only a handful of times. I hope it never happens to you or someone you know, but if it does, here are some guidelines. I recommend calling and speaking to someone directly to get the fastest response.
1. Contact Google – they are pretty quick to address your concerns:
Google Inc.
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View, CA 94043
Phone: +1 650-253-0000
Fax: +1 650-253-0001
2. Contact the Hosting Company – they will often take the site down. Go to NetCraft to find out who is hosting the website: Type the domain name in the search box on the left to see the hosting/contact details.
3. Contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which handles complaints about deceptive or unfair business practices. To file a complaint, visit the FTC, call 1-877-FTC-HELP, or write to the following address:
Federal Trade Commission
CRC-240 Washington, D.C. 20580
4. You may also consider filing a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
5. If your complaint is against a company in a country other than the United States, you can file it at EConsumer
Personally Speaking
In July I’ll be traveling to California to visit the Hearst Castle and surrounding areas. Have you been there? I’d love to hear what to see and do. Staying in Pismo Beach area. Riding a Harley for about 7 days touring up and down the Pacific Coast Highway – woo-hoo! I can feel the ocean breeze now. If you’re planning to vacation in Colorado this year – let me know and maybe we can meet for a martini. Cheers! ~ Anita |
